Performers of all types are welcomed to this class where we will explore the role of physicality in the performer’s work. By experimenting with many different types of physical theatre training, we will focus on relaxing parts of the body that hold tension while working on expanding our physical potential. We will strive to make personal discoveries while acting through movement and gesture in a common creative space. No experience required! Performers, teachers, and artists of all levels will benefit from this class. At the end of the 8-week session we will showcase our work. NOTE: No class on May 10th.
About Your Instructor:
Molly began performing at a young age, inspired by the old movie musicals her parents loved. Starting dance classes at age 4, and singing and acting in shows in elementary school, her love of theatre grew into a passion to further her education and to eventually educate the next generation of art-makers. Molly brings with her a wide range of experiences, from performing professionally, to teaching in grades 8-12 as well as pre-school ages 3-5, to leading workshops for college age students, and directing, choreographing, stage managing, and house managing. She recently received her Master’s degree in Theatre Education from Emerson College, after having earned her Bachelor’s degree from Muhlenberg College in 2016. Her dual degrees in Theatre and Dance, with a concentration in Performance Studies, inform her teaching and art making. Molly specializes in drama through movement, in dance, ranging from concert to theatrical, and in musical theatre performance. Molly is an enthusiastic educator, collaborator, and artist and cannot wait to join the Firehouse Family and greater Newburyport theatre community!
